Eyes on the Ave - #212, 4202 17 Avenue SE

September 14, 2016 @ 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Here’s an experiment you can do with a cool art installation created by Antyx Community Arts. Youth collected portraits from people in Greater Forest Lawn and at the same time collected photos from people outside the area with the goal of asking this question: Can you actually differentiate a person from Greater Forest Lawn by looking at them? This piece breaks down barriers between communities and strangers and shows the vibrancy and pride of International Avenue!

Look for the images on the exterior of the ArtBOX on International Avenue all September, with evening window projections and a travelling exhibition Beakerhead week.

EQUINOX VIGIL- Union Cemetery: 28 Avenue & Spiller Road SE

September 17, 2016: 6:30 to 9:30 pm

Inspired by both ancient and contemporary traditions from around the globe, Equinox Vigil is a creative, respectful evening to honour the deceased and celebrate the natural cycle of Life and Death itself.

Each year on Autumn Equinox, people of all ages and beliefs gather in historic Union Cemetery. All evening, live acoustic music and the voices of the Union Choir softly resonate amidst the headstones. Under twinkling lights in the Craft Tent you’re invited to create personal memorial tributes. A hosted Tea Garden offers a sanctuary for conversation. And at the end of the evening, join a lantern procession winding its way down the Union Cemetery hill. Each element of Equinox Vigil is thoughtfully designed to provide families with a rich and meaningful experience.
